Exceeding the Speed Limit

The law is clear here;  exceed the speed limit and if you are caught  you will be fined or in some cases faces much greater penalties.    Exceed the speed limit by over  30KM/H  and you face much higher penalties including the loss of your licence immediately.  If you are a professional driver then you can just about say goodbye to your career.

Drink driving

Any driver caught behind the wheel driving under the influence of alcohol faces  penalties .  Depending on what you’ve been charged with the potential for to greatly disrupt your life is a real possibility.

Careless driving

When a person drives a vehicle without proper care and attention, it is defined as careless driving. These offences usually occur by a momentary lapse of judgement.  If you cut in front of another vehicle, you deviate from a straight line, or change lanes without properly indicating then you could be charged with Careless Driving.

Dangerous driving

Dangerous driving is more serious than careless driving.   When judging whether a driver was driving dangerously or not, a Court will consider certain other factors. These factors could include the nature and quality of the road and driving, the weather conditions as well as the number of pedestrians in the area and also the health and experience of the driver.  The penalties for dangerous driving include fines, licence suspension or imprisonment.

Reckless driving

Reckless driving is the most serious driving offence.  If you exceed  the speed limit and drive in a manner that is inherently dangerous you could be charged with Reckless Reckless driving.   The difference between dangerous driving and reckless driving is that, in reckless driving the driver is completely aware of his / her offences but continues to do so. If you are found guilty of this offence you will be fined and /or imprisoned and / or lose your licence
